Many people think that all the important work for a challenge happens in the organization phase and on launch day. And sure, there’s plenty of work that needs to be done to ensure that everything runs smoothly from the get-go. However, there is still plenty of work to be done during a challenge, especially in the final stretch.
In the last few weeks or days of a challenge, you might notice that some participants are not as motivated as they were at the start or middle of the challenge. This is a crucial point for the administrative team, raising the question: How can we support participants to finish off this challenge strong?
Create Sub Challenges
Create some excitement for the home stretch by creating mini challenges during those last few days of your main challenge. Inviting participants to join in something low stakes and fun is a great way to reignite motivation in participants who might have lost momentum.
Sub Challenges to Consider:
- Selfie challenge: Invite participants to post a selfie while engaging in an activity, whether it’s with scenic views from a hike or a group photo after a lunch stroll with colleagues.
- Final Stretch Challenge: Introduce a short-term sub-challenge during the last day, weekend, or week of the main challenge. Participants can focus on a specific sub-goal, with recognition or rewards for top performers.
- Daily goal: Create a daily step goal for participants to reach OR encourage participants to set a personal goal for each day of the challenge.
Post Exclusive Content
Keep participants engaged with the challenge by posting exclusive content in the app, only available during those last few days.
Some examples of exclusive content:
- A recipe based on the challenge theme/season
- A motivational message from leadership (text or video)
- An update on funds raised for charity challenges
Data Sync/Entry Reminder
Another important step to take in those final days of a challenge is to remind participants to sync their device or manually enter data. Additionally, it’s always good to remind participants how to do so.
Tips for the Admin Team:
- Send a reminder: Clearly highlight the last possible date for data entry to be considered for the challenge.
- Provide guidance: Share a walkthrough or link to knowledge base to remind participants how to sync their devices or manually enter data (when applicable).
To simplify this process, we offer a template email in the Communication Hub that you can use to communicate these reminders effectively.
Result Locking
Wrapping up a fitness challenge can be tricky, especially when it comes to locking the results . To ensure fairness and accuracy, it’s best to wait a couple of days before locking the results. Syncing delays and last-minute entries can impact the leaderboard, as data can still be manually added or updated even after the challenge officially ends. Taking the time to lock the results only after all participants have had a chance to update their data prevents unexpected changes to the leaderboard.
Note: The feature to lock results after the end of your challenge is only available in our Pro Plan. Consider upgrading if you want to prevent late data entries.
Conclusion
Maintaining engagement during the final days of a challenge can significantly impact the overall success and participant satisfaction. By introducing fun sub-challenges, offering exclusive content, and ensuring data is up to date, you can motivate your team to finish strong. Remember, the challenge isn’t over until the final step is counted!
